Macbook Pro vs Macbook Air: Mac lovers stay with Mac. Some Windows lovers have been migrating to Mac. This can be attributed to the fact that Apple makes the best products. In addition, Mac lovers look more hip when sipping coffee at the local Starbucks.
So lets say you have an expense account with your company and or you need to buy someone a present for the holidays. You have between 1000$ and 2000$ to spend. You go online and check different laptop models. However when you search for Macbook laptop – you get a choice of two Macbooks , Macbook Pro and
Macbook Air. What’s going on here you wonder? What is the difference between the two?
“The MacBook Pro has essentially everything you could want in one, well-designed package. To say this is a really great computer is an understatement. I highly recommend it. I enjoy all the little additions that apple has put into it the design that make it so user friendly.” To read the rest of this customer’s review click here
Well in this article we will break it down for you. The Macbook pro was updated in February of this year while the Macbook Air was updated in July. TO break it down in really simple terms- Macbook Air is the Toyota Corolla of Macbooks- lighter, less powerful and cheaper. The Mac book Pro is the Toyota Lexus, heavier, more powerful and more expensive. It follows that you have to decide which of those features you desire – in order to decide between the two.
“It’s the most stunning idea, isn’t it? This top of the line MacBook Pro is the fastest Mac Notebook ever, and probably one of the fastest Macs period”. To read the rest of this customers review click here
So let’s take the price. If you get the loaded Macbook Air you will still pay less than the cheapest Macbook Pro. The Air comes in two models the 11 inch which will cost you $999 and the 13 inch which will cost you about $1299. However the Mac book Pro has three models – the 13 inch will cost you about $1199, while the 15 inch will cost you $1799 and the 17 inch top of the line will set you back $2499. In other words the cheapest is the 13 inch Pro otherwise the Air are cheaper than the Pro. So if you want to spend the least in the short term your answer is obvious.
“I’ve been running on Apple laptops for the past couple years, so it seemed natural to grab one of these as an upgrade.Let me start by saying it is a quality piece of hardware”.To read the rest of this customers review click here
However saving money in the short term is different from saving money in the long term. The Macbook Pro may save you money in the long term. The Macbook Pro processor is such that it can handle major software upgrades down the road while the Macbook Air may not. So if you want to upgrade the same machine down the road then the Pro is what you should get. If you don’t intend to hang onto the machine for longer periods then this may not be a consideration or you.
“i have always been an avid pc user, always going towards them. i have always admired the macbook pro line from afar. after using this computer for a week ive totally gone back on everything”. To read the rest of this customer’s review click here
The issue of portability is an important question for you to answer. If you are one of those people who are on a plane every other day then you may want to get a laptop that is lighter and more portable than someone who is getting a machine to use mostly in the office or at home. The Air is the one to go with as it weighs between 2.5 to 3 pounds – depending on its screen size. However the smallest Pro weighs 4.5 pounds all the way to 6.5 pounds. This is quite heavy and the reason that I had to dispose of my Dell Latitude D610. It was too heavy to lug around. Not only is the Air lighter than the Pro it is actually lighter than many other laptops in the market.
However the point rose above is complicated. Most people who travel often and have long waiting time in airports –need to play games and watch movies on their laptops. Well here the Pro beats out the Air (even though the Air is lighter).
“this is an apple marvel!Keyboard is the best I have ever used on any computer. The heat that everyone mentions is not an issue for me. The glossy screen is vivid and really makes the images come alive with brilliant clarity and color”.To read the rest of this customers review click here
The Pro has faster processor and easily processes heavy games graphics and flash. In addition if you want to do heavy duty editing with videos and Photoshop then the Pro is what you need. So is the case with other heavy duty CPU intensive activities such as data crunching. So if you watch movies on Netflix and like photoshopping then the Pro is what you need.
“Some folks have complained about the fan noise…I can’t hear my fan run. The unit runs a little warmer than I would like but is much cooler than the Sony Vaio it replaced. We have 5 computers on our wireless network 2 Macs and 3 PC’s. We will replace one of the PC’s soon with another MAC…..Buy ANY Mac…you will not regret it.”

We searched high and low for negative reviews. Some mentioned that the screen was vulnerable to scratches. In addition its glossy finish attracts dust and therefore needs to be wiped off more often.
The Air’s (low end) battery seems to last less long than the PRO. The Air will get you about five hours while the pro will get you about 7 hours. However the 13 Air seems to match very well with Pro on battery life.
In conclusion, if you will be doing regular tasks such as checking emails and browsing the web then you won’t notice any difference between the Air and the PRO. So in this case we strongly recommend you go with the Air and save money. However if you are heavy user, crunch numbers, Play graphics heavy games and movies then you need the PRO. However which ever you get the Macbook is still way above the competition.
